Tomas
Glass
Major in
Minor, works in provisional painting :
In these times
of media overkill, my work reminds us of the absolute and essential components
of art, painting, and drawing that serve as the very foundation of art
history. The cornerstones of my compositions are rooted in modernism, while
my paintings are based on improvisation and composition a lot like jazz
music, where the musician becomes saturated in the notes, and then has
the freedom to flow.
While
each person has there own rhythm , my work manifests a personal cadence
. The result is an expression in color line and form that turns into patterns
of energized movements which are revealed in my work.

"I'll keep
it simple. You can say a lot of things about painting, I really don't know
about all that. I just say paint from your gut."

Tomas Glass
and Guus Kemp open this month at Nau-haus, and just like last month's exhibitions
showcasing Pam Horsman and Tuyet Thi Ong have I have been having great
big fun putting these shows together.
There is something
very special about abstract painters. Something extraordinary about people
who are willing to just put it all out there without justification or social
cause, and just share the pure joy they find as they lose themselves in
the act of painting. They hide behind nothing, and leave us with a record
on canvas of their most private journeys.
Tuyet revealed
herself through a completely emotional attachment to the paint and canvas
while Pam started with the same inspirations, but as her mother pointed
out, had a family predisposition towards controlling things. It's all been
terrific, everyone and the family too - everyone has had the most interesting
things to add to the discourse about our first show of non-objective works
this summer.
And now the
second half of summer abstraction at the Nau-haus. Opening the last weekend
in June, our July exhibitions features Tomas Glass "Major In Minor" and
Guus Kemp "Riot of Parrots." Tomas Glass is also a musician and thoughtfuly
plays out his visual riffs like Miles Davis improvising and on a theme,
while Guus Kemp, a transplant from Norway, puts the paint out on the canvas
like Tommy Ramone was somewhere in the room banging a drum.
It would be
too easy to compare the boys with the girls. But please take a look and
see what you think.
